The first thought after thumbing through "269 Amazing Sex Tips and Tricks for Men" and "269 Amazing Sex Tips and Tricks for Women" (Sourcebooks Casablanca, $9.95 each): Did the authors test all 538? "I did take some of it from other people's suggestion. I can't say I personally tried every single one of them," co-author Anne Hooper said with a laugh. She wrote the books with Phillip Hodson. Hooper and Hodson, a pair of 57-year-old British psychotherapists and sex therapists, have been life partners for more than 25 years. The two, who met in the early `70s in London as editors at Penthouse Forum magazine, pooled their expertise for the two thin books. The tips_"amazing" is a subjective term, of course_cover everything from undercarriage grooming and sex toys for the men to improving orgasms for women. "The reaction has been quite interesting," Hooper said. "We found that the book aimed at men has not sold as well as the book aimed at women. This goes together with some other research that seems to show that it's women who are buying sexual material these days." And did she have any favorite tips? No. 180 in the men's book caught her imagination, she said. "It's one of the sex toys, a very ingenious sort of vibrator," she said. "It's a tiny vibrator that fits over the end of your finger like a sheath, and it's powered off those tiny watch batteries. There's no battery pack, there's no cord, so you can't tell really that there's anything particularly unusual about a friend's finger.
